2010 School Nurse of the Year

The Wisconsin Association of School Nurses announced the winner of the School Nurse of the Year Award at its conference in Madison Wisconsin on April 29, 2010.

Bette Carr, School Nurse from the Beloit School District won the 2010 School Nurse of the Year Award after being nominated by the Beloit School District Executive Director of Pupil Services Chris Wesling and selected by a panel of judges.

Bette has worked for the Beloit District for 17 years. She is a graduate of Blackhawk Technical College, Marian College of Nursing and has a Masters Degree in Nursing from Drexel. She is a member of the National Association of School Nurses and the Wisconsin Association of School Nurses.

Bette has worked for the City of Beloit Health Department and has nursing experience in mental health, occupational health, cardiology and on a medical floor.

Bette is a National Certified School Nurse. She has served as Treasurer for the Wisconsin Association of School Nurses in 2004-2006. In 2001 she received the Rotary Teacher of the Month Award. In addition, Bette has served on the Board of the League of Women Voters since 1980.

Bette has worked to improve the well-being of all students including the most medically fragile students. Bette's impact on the school district is visible at all levels, with students, with policy and with the community. Bette is a member of the Student Intervention Team and also trains staff on Automatic External Defibrillators, Blood-borne Pathogens and H1N1. Bette has been described as “truly dedicated” to the wellbeing of staff, students and familes.

She has been invited to apply for the National Association of School Nurses School Nurse of the Year Award in October 2010.
